Olive oil, which has held a central place in Spanish gastronomy and culture for centuries, is taking on a new tourist dimension. The latest initiative, Oleotourism Spain, offers more than a hundred different experiences. It gives travelers the chance to discover authentic landscapes, small towns and villages, while also encouraging travel outside of peak season.
Provinces preserving the olive-growing tradition
The project includes nine regions: Badajoz, Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén, Seville and Tarragona. With support from European recovery funds amounting to €1.5 million, the goal is to boost rural tourism. But also offer an alternative to traditional urban destinations.

Authentic experiences for visitors
In the south, in the town of Pulpí, the Oleolmanzora estate welcomes tourists eager to learn more about the Picual and Arbequina varieties. In addition to walking through olive groves and visiting the mill, guests can taste different types of extra virgin olive oil. That includes innovative versions infused with garlic, chili or lemon.
In the northeast, in the picturesque village of Riudecanyes, the Escornalbou Gourmet combines an ecological approach to production with the preservation of tradition. Visitors can stroll among centuries-old olive trees, discover how the unique microclimate shapes the oil’s aroma. And enjoy unusual pairings such as olive oil with chocolate or the classic pan con tomate. Workshops are also available, where guests can create their own flavored oils or olive-based cosmetics.
A blend of nature, sport and tasting
Nature and adventure lovers visiting the Serra Calderona Natural Park can enrich their experience with tastings of rare olive oils. In nearby villages such as Olocau, Gátova and Segorbe, travelers can sample specialties made from trees that are several hundred years old. Among them are the prized Serrana de Espadán and Villalonga varieties.
A new dimension of gastronomic tourism
With this project, Spain is transforming olive oil into a tourism brand that unites gastronomy, tradition and nature. For those who want to explore the country beyond the usual routes, oleotourism offers the chance to immerse themselves in the local way of life. But also turn a trip into a unique culinary and cultural experience.
