History enthusiasts will soon have the chance to explore one of modern Egypt’s most ambitious cultural achievements – the Grand Egyptian Museum. After more than twenty years of planning and construction, the museum will be fully open on July 3, offering visitors a unique opportunity to embark on a fascinating journey through Egypt’s rich past.
A Unique Collection in the Heart of Giza
The museum is located just two kilometers from the Giza Pyramid Complex. It has been partially accessible to the public since October 2024, allowing guests to explore 12 main galleries. Starting this July, visitors will be able to step into galleries dedicated to Tutankhamun and the Khufu Ship Museum, unveiling new layers of Egyptian mythology and tradition.
The Treasure of the Boy King’s Tomb
The Tutankhamun galleries will house the complete collection of artifacts discovered in his tomb, which remained nearly untouched for over 3,000 years. This collection, containing more than 5,000 artifacts, was uncovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. It is one of the most significant discoveries in the history of Egyptology.

A Museum Dedicated to Ancient Pharaohs’ Ships
The Khufu Ship Museum will showcase one of the two ancient boats found near the Great Pyramid of Giza. This impressive vessel is known as the solar boat. It is believed to have been a sacred ship meant to transport Pharaoh Khufu to the afterlife alongside the sun god Ra.
Numerous Exhibits and Thematic Sections
The Grand Egyptian Museum boasts a collection of over 100,000 artifacts. Among them is a unique hanging obelisk, which was relocated from the archaeological site of Tanis and now dominates the museum’s entrance.

Along the Grand Staircase of the museum, more than 60 statues and historical objects are displayed. They are arranged in several thematic sections that illuminate various aspects of life, religion, and rule in ancient Egypt.
A Chronological Overview of Egyptian History
The museum’s galleries are divided into four historical periods. From the earliest prehistoric settlements and the first pharaohs, through the Middle and New Kingdoms, to later periods of Egyptian history. That also includes the Greco-Roman era. This structure allows visitors to clearly follow the development of a civilization that shaped human history for centuries.
The grand opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum is scheduled for July 3, when the world will finally have the chance to fully experience the magnificent past of ancient Egypt.
