The American company Remitly, specializing in international money transfers, has released a new immigration index analyzing various aspects of life in 82 countries worldwide. The study was published in March 2025. It considered factors such as healthcare, economic prosperity, safety, and technological infrastructure, with each country receiving a score of up to 100 points.

New study reveals the best countries for families

One of the key criteria was family-friendliness, assessed based on the availability and quality of education, as well as childcare costs. Data on the average length of schooling for adults, expected years of education for children, and annual childcare costs were used to calculate the family suitability index for each country.

Sri Lanka tops the list

Sri Lanka secured the top spot thanks to its excellent education system and extremely low childcare costs. This island nation scored 0.7 on a scale of 1.0 in the education system category, while annual childcare costs amounted to just $354.60. In comparison, the United States, which ranked tenth, has childcare costs reaching $16,439.40 per year.
